Name of activity: Regional Experts Meeting to Consider the Needs of Promoting the Role of Manuscripts Collecting, Conservation and Restoration Centres in the Asian Member States.

Benefiting parties: ISESCO Asian Member States

Objectives:

1.      To encourage the creation of regional centres for the conservation of manuscripts and training in their restoration;

2.      To develop manuscript restoration and maintenance centres in the Member States;

3.      To highlight the role of manuscript centres and their importance as to the protection of Islamic manuscripts;

4.      To promote the conservation centres and develop their relations with their human and natural surrounding.

Axes:

-          The role of Islamic manuscript centres in the preservation of heritage;

-          Developing the human resources of manuscript centres.

-          Using new ICTs in operating manuscript conservation and cataloguing centres.

Expected outcome:

1.      Sensitization to the importance of manuscript centres in preserving the history of Muslim peoples;

2.      Fostering the role of manuscript centres in the Islamic world ;

3.      Highlighting the role of manuscript centres in cultural education.

Participation requirements:

Participants shall:

-          Be specialized in manuscripts;

-          Have adequate skills in manuscript restoration and maintenance;

-          Submit their application through the national commissions before 15/06/2009;

-          Present a documented report on a given manuscript collecting, conservation and restoration experience.
